princess

Unfortunately, Mother Nature has forced me to reschedule a client today that I had been very much looking forward to. We have plans to meet on Friday instead, so stay tuned.
I thought that since I could not share fabulous pug photos today, I would instead share a sweet photo of my princess Charlotte. I really miss her today.
She was incredible.
I am forever grateful for our beautiful life together.

Glen

I love you Glen.
You protect my best friend, Duncan (your wonderful Daddy).
You guard Auntie Anne and I and ensure that we are always safe and happy.
You now protect and even play with (I caught you) Zach and Sophie.
Glen is a border collie and our #1 dog friend and playmate.
The light yesterday afternoon brought out his gorgeous eyes, the eyes that watch everyone 24/7. It is a wonder he ever sleeps. Ever so guardful.

canon girl all the way

Some folks have asked recently about my camera gear. Truth be told, I considered switching to Nikon recently after meeting two fabulous gals Bev and Stephanie , but I had to stick with Canon. It just felt right to me. I just upgraded to a 40D and could not be happier. Dan, you were right again, my friend.
It is funny how my fellow photographer friends love one or the other. I know of some who love both. I definitely believe you can't go wrong with either. It is purely personal preference.
Now it all comes down to the big stuff....the glass. I am currently renting from Lensprotogo (Paul you are wonderful!) what I believe may be one of the best lenses for my kind of photo taking....Canon 24-70mm f/2.8. Yummy. However, I really want to try the 50 mm 1.4. Hmmmm.
I am also thinking about asking Paul for a week's worth of the 24 f/1.4....whhhooooooeeeee!
So many good options. There is even this option. Boy I wish Santa was still around.
Now this little photographer is a Nikon girl through and through.
I wish I had started doing this at her age. By the way, there was hardly even a glance my way from her. "Silly old girl with your canon."

Chuck, you are the best

In my years as a dog parent, there are some old standby toys that seem to save me everytime.
The infamous Chuckit! is no exception. On days like today when the dogs have much more energy than I, the ability to throw a tennis ball many many feet has fabulous advantages.
My sweet boy loves the Chuckit!. Usually this is his stance as I ready the orange and blue tennis ball. Apparrently, these colored jobbers are far more tasty than the usual tennis balls.....who knew?
We have three of them (Chuckits that is, not tennis balls....I have lost count). One of them is barely capable of holding the ball it is so chewed. Another is brand new in bright orange...perfect for hunting season (yuck). I am waiting for Canine Hardware to create the collapsible purse sized one, preferably in pink.

Windy wishes

I have grown to love the windiest of days. I love the different sounds. I love the way it picks up my dogs' ears. I love how they then sniff into the wind with half closed eyes. I love the way it makes for a great excuse to stay indoors and make soup. We get lots of windy days, today is no exception.
Nevertheless, we managed to get a long walk in this morning and shoot a couple of keepers.
Did I mention how much I adore my boy Zach?
Did I mention how somewhere in the past nine weeks since adopting him, I have fallen madly in love? No, eh....yeah, right.
I will reserve further discussion of him until a future post so that I can finish all I set out to do today, but suffice to say he is wondrous.

Liar...liar...

Apparrently I am just a big liar.
After my wondrous rambling about my sweet girl Sophie this morning, I went out and shot (caught) her in action. It would appear that she lets her brother know who is boss, no matter how sweet and loving she is at other times.
I had to post this....how typical of her to make me laugh in surprise.!

Sophie Bella

As a pet photographer, I see many animals, particularly dogs. I adore them all, sometimes a little too much.
Having two dogs is just the perfect scenario for me. Ok, ok, I would love to have 4 or 5 to be really honest; however, 2 is a good number for me at this point.
I thought I would blog today about my little girl, the oldest of my two beauties, Sophie.
Sophie came home to me as a seven week old baby girl. I brought her home to be a little sister for my beautiful Charlotte, then eight years old. What a beautiful almost five year life they had together. I will always credit Sophie for being such a great friend and protector of Charlotte.
They adored each other.
When Charlotte crossed over the rainbow bridge, my world fell apart. Sophie picked me up and literally did not leave my side. She grew up overnight. Previously an impulsive, sometimes defiant "monkey girl", she suddenly turned into the loyal, receptive and loving dog that I expected her to be as she matured. There was no more running away to chase deer and bunnies; she stuck by my side like a velcro dog. She was always staring at me.
However, she appearred to me to be getting more and more depressed. I knew she missed Charlotte, and was probably being affected by my emotional state.
When I finally got word that I was accepted to adopt a 17 month old golden boy, I jumped at the chance. A boy who needed us, just as we needed him.
Sophie is as happy as can be. She adores Zach. He adores her. She is an incredible big sister, just as Charlotte taught her to be.
Since the day I took her home, I was always amazed by her eyes. She has the shiniest, "twinkliest" eyes I have ever seen. I hope I captured them so that you can see what I mean. Like little stars, day or night.
Yes, I am very proud of my little girl.

Indian Summer

Oh how I love a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the autumn season, especially when it is 70 degrees at 5:30PM.
See for yourself how island dogs spend a day off in October.

Eukilis

She is so in love with him...
It is quite easy to see why.
Eukilis is quite the handsome boy.
10 months old and full of that love of life that we all should experience.
I am not sure who is luckier, Yuki or Mom.
I would say it is one of those special relationships that will continue to grow in leaps and bounds ...
Thanks for the opportunity to share in the fun! You guys made my day.

Envy

I don't consider the dog lovers I know to be envious sort of people.
However the word on the street is that my Zach is the target of "black nose envy".
Apparrently, this emotion does exist amongst some dog parents; particularly those of yellow labs and goldens.
For those of you out there experiencing this particular type of envy, here is the object of affection...

Gorgeous Autumn

It is no secret that I love the autumn season. Quite clearly, this affection I have for the cool air, gorgeous light and crisp leaves has rubbed off on Sophie and Zach. The afternoon at Sanford was glorious with our wonderful friends Duncan and Glen.
Glen is a border collie and trust me, acts at all times like the vigilent dog he thinks he ought to be. Zach is bringing out a more playful side in Glen, or perhaps this beautiful air and light on our island this afternoon is to blame...

Graduation

Thank you, Michelle Nee of Perfect K-9 Training here on Nantucket.
Michelle is the rock star of canine training. My kids have been in class with her and her sweet assistant Tiffy (all 8 pounds of her) for the past six weeks. Ah, graduation tonight. Yes, I know...you are thinking "Didn't she write that Sophie is five years old?" I could hardly leave the house with Zach every Wednesday night and not take big sister....
We will miss Tiffy, Cash, Bucky and Shanti....you guys are awesome and so are your parents.
We hope to see you very soon out and about.
For those of you in need of some gentle, effective and sensitive dog training, Michelle is your girl.

Ooops

Oh my goodness...
My mother will be horrified.
I have to admit I am a bit embarrassed that I have forgotten my manners.
Yes, yes I know. I forgot to introduce myself and my most wonderful dogs.
I am the owner of Charlotte Carey Pet Photography and am assisted on a regular basis by goldens Sophie and Zach, ages 5 and 1 respectively.
Charlotte Carey (aka Char Char Love) was my first dog, also a golden retriever. She was the love of my life and has inspired me to photograph other incredible pets and their people.
Without further ado, my trusty assistants Sophie and Zachary.
As I am sure you can imagine, you will be seeing a lot of them around these parts.....

Blessing of the animals

The Interfaith Council here on Nantucket sponsored an event yesterday at Children's Beach for our pets. Thank you to the wonderful people who made the Blessing of the Animals event so special. All animals were on their best behavior; I am quite certain the gorgeous weather was the reason.
Although I was busy holding two leashes for my two very excited kids, I managed to snap a few images of some of the other furbabies. Enjoy!
